a world apart...For Grade 3.5 String Orchestra
|
A world apart... is a thematic tribute to both the eternally cyclical nature of our existence, and life on the eastern slope of the Rockies. This piece depicts the story of a young girl climbing a mountain with her mother. On her journey she encounters many hardships which she overcomes to portray a coming of age. Once she returns from the mountain, she is older, wiser, and has a daughter of her own. They begin their climb together.
The title stems from a poem entitled: “The Green Mountain” "You ask me why I dwell in the green mountain:
I smile and make no reply for my heart is free of care. As the peach-blossom flows down stream and is gone into the unknown, I have a world apart that is not among men." - Li Po A world apart is a soaring and charismatic work for strings with a powerful cello solo and a breathtaking violin and cello duet. It will make a fabulous addition to any concert program!
